STUART, FL (WFLX) - Our second Duffy's High School MVP of the Week goes to senior Zach Hinds, linebacker/team captain.
He was nominated by Coach Dennis Lavelle for his drive in the classroom and the football field. "I'm currently enrolled in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program, and really it's just a matter of mixture of sports and academics. Because, although I love football, and I play with all my heart, in the end, I know it's academics that will get me where I want to go."
Hinds is ranked 10th in his class and carries a 4.0 GPA. "After high school, I plan on going to most likely Georgia Tech University and study aerospace engineering," he said.
"He's a great player, a great student and a tremendous citizen in our school and community," said Coach Lavelle. "He's unique. He's a good student, never got a B, and he's our best defensive player. He does everything for us. He runs the show, makes all the calls, all the adjustments."
For Hinds, football is more than intensity and power. "Behind it all, there's a strategy that goes into every play, and you never know what to expect after each play and before each play. And just the combination of pure physical power and adrenalin combined with the mental surge, and the mental strategy that goes into it, I love it."
