Reward offered for stolen puppies

WELLINGTON, FL (WFLX) - Pet store owner Danny Ruiz said it was just before 2 p.m. Monday when a thief snatched two prized puppies out of his Wellington pet shop. "I feel like somebody took our kids. Took our babies," said Ruiz.

Employee Christopher Justin and about six customers were in the store during the theft. "The gentleman was wearing a coat and the weather was hot out," recalled Ruiz. "He was wearing sunglasses when he came in the store."

Within a few minutes, the man was gone, and so were two puppies valued at $3,000. "I looked around and noticed my puppies were missing, and I immediately bolted out of the door," said Justin. "The guy jumped in the car and took off."

Justin said the man had a teacup Yorkie and Chihuahua tucked under his coat when he left the store. "They're very fragile and require a lot of care," said Ruiz. Care that Ruiz believes may not be given properly if the puppies aren't returned.

The description of the vehicle is vague, but Ruiz is hoping, after going through surveillance video, they'll be able to have a better idea of who may be behind the crime. "Who knows where they are now," said Ruiz. "When somebody comes and takes puppies, it saddens everybody."

A police report has been filed, and the business is now offering a $1,000 reward for the return of both puppies.

The suspect is described as a dark Hispanic male. He was wearing jeans and a black coat at the time of the robbery. He was seen speeding off in a silver Ford Escape with black trim.
