All clear in suspicious vehicle investigation

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The scene is now clear after West Palm Beach police, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security, blocked traffic Monday morning in an area of downtown West Palm Beach because of a suspicious vehicle, according to police spokesman Chase Scott.

After determining the vehicle was safe, police began the process of reopening the streets around Banyan Boulevard and Tamarind Avenue on a staggered basis.

According to Scott, the Federal Courthouse, an adjacent building, the Health Department and post office had been evacuated as a precaution. Employees have since returned to their office buildings.

Scott said police were alerted to the vehicle by a tip after it had been there for several days. "Upon initial investigation, we had an explosives K9 alerting to the vehicle the possibility of explosives," said Scott.

As a result the bomb squad was called in.

Scott said the vehicle was a rental-type truck and was left vacant. "It had anti-law enforcement graffiti on the side," Scott said.

Scott says the truck will be impounded and investigated. The identity of the tipster has not been released.
