Temple files for bankruptcy, Rabbi resigns

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) A Treasure Coast temple is forced to file for bankruptcy and at the same time they lost their Rabbi of 11 years all of it because of the shaky economy.

Just days after Temple Beth el Israel in Port St. Lucie filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Rabbi Arthur Rutberg ended his career because leaders wanted to cut his pay in half.

Rutberg's new contract would have paid him less than $30,000, he said that wouldn't have been enough to get by.  For now members of the congregation are leading services every Friday and Saturday until a new part time rabbi is hired.
