Palm Tran bus & truck collide injuring 14

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A collision between a pickup truck and a Palm Tran bus in West Palm Beach has sent the truck's driver and more than 10 bus passengers to local hospitals. None of those injuries, however, appear to be life threatening reported authorities at the scene.

The truck's driver had to be cut out of the pickup's cab and was feared to have more severe injuries than proved to be the case, West Palm Beach Traffic Homicide investigator Karl Seifel said.

Those on the bus suffered mostly minor injuries.

The crash happened at about 7:33 a.m. at the intersection of Palm Beach Lakes and 7th Street, that's between Australian and Congress Avenues, according to dispatch records.

The bus was headed east on Palm Beach Lakes when its front end collided with the driver's side of a white pickup truck which had entered the section northbound from 7th street.

The intersection is regulated by a traffic light, but it is not yet clear who had the right of way when the two crashed, Seifel said.

Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard eastbound was closed beginning at Congress Avenue to beyond 7th Street, but has since reopened.
