Hispanic Leaders Demand More Representation in Schools

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) Hispanic business leaders and educators united Wednesday night, demanding their growing numbers in our community be reflected in a far larger voice in the Palm Beach County School system.

They noted that nearly one third of the students in Palm Beach County public schools are hispanic, but only 8-percent of the districts principals are hispanic.

And they made their complaints known to the school board, a seven member body without a single hispanic member.

School board members said they are listening, vowed to open new dialogue and do better. The Hispanic Education Coalition, a group of local hispanic professionals, are thankful for that but say they have heard promises before.

They vow to step up the pressure in the coming months, especially at this crucial time when the district is poised to look for a new superintendent.
