Vigil Held In Honor Of Brianna Cooper

STUART, FL (WFLX)  Thursday night, hundreds came out for a candlelight vigil in honor of 11-year-old Brianna Cooper who died last year in a car accident.

"Brianna was a special young lady," said her mother, Cindy Cooper.

"She was just an amazing little girl," said family friend, Kristen Labella.

A community struggling to learn to live without her, is working diligently to honor her memory.

"It's phenomenal to see Martin County come together at a time like this," said Cindy Cooper.

The day was September 29, 2010. She was in the backseat of her father's Honda Accord, headed home with her younger brothers and sister when their car was struck at a red light near Pomeroy Street and Kanner Highway. Brianna was killed in the crash and her father and three other siblings were sent to the hospital.

"We still have ups and downs," said father, Todd Cooper.

"It hasn't set in yet, even though it has been a year," said Labella.

"She's an angel and I have to believe she is looking down, helping us through this," said Cindy Cooper.

The family says a foundation they started in honor of Brianna - the Brianna Cooper Heavenly Smiles Foundation - is what's keeping their spirits up.
