Panera swings into Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Morgan Pressel

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - "It gives me chills every time I see it," said Morgan Pressel.

Professional Golfer Morgan Presse is only 23 years old; yet, she's already raised $2 million for South Florida charities. "When I was 15, I lost my mother to breast cancer. Since then, having played golf for a living and given the platform of making a difference in other people's lives, I decided that I always wanted to startup my own foundation and raise money for breast cancer and raise awareness. And we've done that through the Morgan Pressel Foundation," said Pressel.

T-minus one day to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Mammovan, primarily funded by the Morgan Pressel Foundation, rolled into Panera Bread.

Patrons enjoyed Panera's Pink Ribbon Bagels and had the opportunity to have their annual mammogram. "As women, we always put ourselves on the backburner, and we tend to take care of our families, our husbands, our children, our parents, and we always say we'll get to it," explained Terry Muenzer with Boca Regional Hospital. "The convenience of the van, going to your facility where you're working, you're doing it either on your lunch hour or you break. If you have an appointment, you're on and off the van in 15 minutes."

Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation President Jan Savarick says the hospital performs more than 90,000 procedures annually for the diagnosis and detection of breast cancer making it vital for community support. "We have something called the 'Go Pink Challenge', so partners in the community, like Panera, hold fundraisers," said Savarick. "We have golf tournaments, tennis tournaments. We have jewelry sales. We have all sorts of things."

With one in eight women diagnosed with breast cancer, I'm sure you have been touched by this illness. Take time this month to go pink -- for your sisters, mothers and daughters.
