Delray Beach offers free Wi-Fi

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - At Caffe Luna Rosa on A1A near Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, business has almost rebounded to where it was five years ago.

"Thanks to our patrons and customers supporting us, the season is coming, and, I think, it's going to be one of the best seasons that we've ever had," said Nikola Stijk, the manager.

Maybe the last piece will be found with the help of a new blanket of wireless Internet that's been cast over Atlantic Avenue.

Caffe Luna Rosa has purchased one of nine advertising spots on the network's landing page, meaning anyone who logs on will see them.

"We just have to find a new way to reach more and more people -- to introduce our place to them -- because that's the name of our business," said Stijk.

Delray-based Blueweb Mobile Media won't charge people who use the wireless Web.

Rather, they'll collect ad money from local businesses to run their gear, maintain the network, and they hope, turn a profit. "The network that we set up here is a mini-model. We could do this throughout the entire city," said CEO Daniel Kinney.

They would need people to agree to let them put their towers up on buildings, which delayed this project by months while contracts were negotiated.

Right now, they say every business on Atlantic Avenue will be able to capitalize on a generation that has rules.

"If I'm going to study and there's no Wi-Fi, there's no point. I'll just stay home," said Sara Toosarvandani.

The wireless web will officially launch Thursday during the city's 100th anniversary celebration.

Heavy-duty stickers announcing the wireless web access will be placed up and down the avenue.
