ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Homeless and struggling veterans on the Treasure Coast are getting help finding homes of their own.
St. Lucie Habitat is starting the Veterans Housing Program especially for them. It works very similar to Habitat for Humanity's Home Building Program. Volunteers will build or renovate all the homes.
Veterans, who meet St. Lucie County's affordable housing guidelines and have served honorably in the military, are eligible.
The goal is to place military families in single family homes and remodel foreclosed condos and townhouses in adult communities for senior veterans. "We can put our resources together and do something great to help a lot of people," said Garrett Grabowski with Veterans' Housing Program. "What better way to help people than to help those who provided our freedoms for us."
