3 People Arrested in Abuse Case Lived In WPB

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) Three people have been arrested for allegedly taking social security checks from four mentally disabled people and locking them up in a Philadelphia basement.

Linda Ann Weston and Eddie Wright, who were two of the three people arrested, used to live on the corner of 52nd Street and Manning Avenue in West Palm Beach.

Now, the old home is abandoned with overgrown trees and weeds in front, and all the windows boarded up.

Weston and Wright moved into the home last October. Now, a year later, Weston, Wright and Weston's apparent boyfriend, Gregory Thomas, are in jail in Philadelphia and accused of chaining up four mentally disabled adults and locking them in a basement full of their own feces.

"I didn't think they had anything going on like that," Ronald Bass said.

"I was shocked," Sadie Pollard said. "I didn't believe it."

Pollard said the suspects used to call themselves her friend. She would make dinner for the family from time to time, she said.

While Pollard knew the suspects, she said they would treat the disabled people who lived in the house terribly.

"She would holler at them girls. She would beat up them girls," Pollard said about Weston. "She called them her children, but they came in and their feet were all swollen up and hands all swollen up. I can't describe it."

"We would hear screams every night from the disabled women being beat up," Bass said.

The West Palm Beach homeowner, Jeff Rouse, says Weston had several disabled people living with her in the home and called them her children. Wright lived in the duplex behind the house with more adults, Rouse added.

"Oh lord! You should have seen what the city took out of there," Pollard replied when asked how the suspects treated the house. "They tore that house up inside."

From feces on the wall to wires stripped, Rouse said the suspects left $50,000 dollars worth of damage when they were evicted in June. A month later, Wright was arrested for burglary and was under investigation for grand theft.

Weston reportedly began an 8-year prison sentence in the 1980s for helping hold her sister's boyfriend hostage and starving him to death.

In this Philadelphia case, the four adults are in stable condition and expected to be survive.
