Leviticus Taylor makes first appearance after jailbreak

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Indian River County Jail escapee Leviticus Taylor made his first court appearance Tuesday morning after he was apprehended by authorities in Stuart Monday night.

During his appearance, Circuit Court Judge Morgan asked Taylor if he wanted the court to appoint him a lawyer. Taylor answered, "It doesn't matter."

"If it doesn't matter, I won't," said Judge Morgan.

Taylor was ordered to be held without bail, and his next court appearance is set for Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.

The two women who allegedly helped Taylor escape were also in court Tuesday.

Sadie Elizabeth Welker, 19, who says she's Taylor's girlfriend, and Angela Pike, 35, are being charged for allegedly assisting in Taylor's escape.

In an affidavit, Welker said she had seen Taylor after he escaped.

She said she received a call through Pike's cell and was told to go to the Pinnacle Grove Apartment Complex where she would pick up Taylor.

Welker said she knew he was going to escape because of calls and emails. She also stated that her and Pike had gone to Gifford on Oct. 21, 22 and 23 to get Taylor, but he never showed up.

Both woman were given a $100,000 bail. Their next court appearance is set for December 12.
