Evidence escapee was in Sebastian

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said that there is now DNA evidence that shows escapee Rondell Reed was in Sebastian on Wednesday.

The sheriff said Reed, who escaped Monday with another inmate who was later captured, tried to burglarize three automobiles at Sebastian Auto in an effort to steal them. He injured himself and left blood behind. Detectives processed the DNA evidence and the sheriff said he confirmed that it is a match to Reed.

"I have personally confirmed that the blood evidence is a DNA match of Rondell Reed, that significantly enhances our investigation, specifically places him in a specific spot in Sebastian which is in the very, very close proximity to the 2004 Dodge pickup truck that was stolen," the sheriff said.

The sheriff said he believes after escaping, Reed was in the Gifford area then followed train tracks 13 miles to Sebastian.

Sheriff Loar said after attempting to break into a Dodge Caravan at Sebastian Auto, he traveled a mile down the road and entered an empty house at 1601 U.S. 1 where he stayed for about twelve hours. Additional evidence was left in the house that the sheriff says proves Reed waited and watched at the north-facing window for his opportunity.

At 4:30 Wednesday afternoon the sheriff believes Reed took off in a 2004 gray Dodge Ram pickup truck with a full tank of gas and the keys inside.

The sheriff says he was likely traveling north.

Reed is considered armed and dangerous. He has tattoos all over his arms and hands.

He could be in the truck with Florida license plate K771FN.
