(WFLX) - A Florida woman's finance dies while fighting in Afghanistan. To honor the fallen soldier's memory, she is enlisting in the Marines.
In August, Madeline Cates got the call that no one wants to get. Her fiance, Travis Nelson, was killed in battle.
After she was given the news, Cates says, she dreamed she was a Marine. That all became real the day she went to meet a recruiter. "Something in me right now, I feel the need to finish it," she said. "I wanna see what he saw, do what he did."
Cates says she feels prepared for the Marines because of Nelson's letters she still keeps.
Madeline leaves for boot camp in March -- the same month her fiance' was to return for their wedding.
