Teen shot in head while inspecting rifle

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX)  A 16-year-old boy has been rushed to the hospital after he was accidentally shot in the head while inspecting a rifle, deputies said.

Two teens between the ages of 16 and 19 were inspecting the rifle at a home in the 3000 block of Bahama Road in Palm Beach Gardens when it accidentally discharged, striking one boy in the head, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Teri Barbera said.

Four teens were reportedly inside the home at the time of the incident around 9:35 a.m., according to Barbera.

Paramedics rushed the teen to St. Mary's Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Deputies were able to contact the boy's father, who is now at the hospital.

Neighbors at the scene said paramedics performed CPR on the boy when they arrived. Deputies are investigating the incident. So far, no charges have been filed.

Deputies have not said where the teens got the gun.
