WPB officer involved in motorcycle crash

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A West Palm Beach police officer was involved in a motorcycle crash at the corner of North Congress Avenue and Embassy Drive.

Emergency crews preformed CPR at the scene shortly after noon. According to West Palm Beach city spokesperson Chase Scott, the officer was not responsive when emergency crews arrived.

However, hours later a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the officer is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Scott told The Palm Beach Post that the officer was conducting traffic or speed enforcement when he was struck.

Police are inspecting at least three vehicles at the scene in addition to the motorcycle.

Photographs from Chopper 5 show a four-door car in the middle of the street with extensive front-end damage. An airbag appears to have gone off in a second car. The officer's motorcycle is located 10-20 yards off the road in a grassy area.

The officer is being treated at St. Mary's Medical Center.

The public is being kept away from the accident site. North Congress Avenue between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 45 Street is closed in both directions.

Police are releasing few details, but a 'Florida Blue Alert' has been issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

According to the alert "an individual who is believed to have injured the officer may be driving a red Honda with a Florida license tag containing the letters ALS."

Police urge anyone with information to call the West Palm Beach Police Department at 561.822.1900 or 911.
