1979 murder suspect in PBSO custody

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - After disappearing more than 30 years ago during a homicide investigation, the murder suspect in the death of a Lake Park woman is back in the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office's custody.

In July of 1979, after a wellness check was done on then 29-year-old Charlene Nelson at her Lake Park home, investigators found her body badly beaten and stabbed to death.

Palm Beach County investigators say at the time Nelson was living with Jon Charles Black, who was known to authorities at the time of the homicide as Jon Good.

Nelson's car was later found in Orlando with Black's wallet inside, but Black couldn't be found and a second-degree murder warrant was issued for Jon Good, who was described as being a 36-year-old plasterer, PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

In April of 2011, Citrus County authorities arrested Bob Jay Parsons on a second-degree murder charge in the suspected killing of his 57-year-old girlfriend, Arlene Preg.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has said that Preg was found bludgeoned in the back yard of the couple's home and accuse Black of comitting the crime.

A short time later it was discovered Parsons' true identity is Jon Charles Black and was wanted on the arrest warrant for Nelson's murder.

Barbera said in April the fingerprints obtained by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Cold Case detectives matched the ones the Citrus County Sheriff's Office were able to obtain on Parsons, who was actually Jon Black.

Monday, the now 69-year-old man, who has lived under different names since 1979, made a first appearance in a Palm Beach County court after being extradited from Citrus County.
