Belle Glade man shot, Masked gunman sought

BELLE GLADE, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for two people, initially described to be wearing black fatigues and ski masks, after a person was shot Wednesday morning in Belle Glade.

Authorities say the wounded man, who was shot in the leg and arm, was able to make his way to Lakeside Medical Center. He was then flown by Trauma Hawk to St. Mary's Medical Center.

The incident happened at Southwest Avenue D and Southwest 9th Street.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said PBSO is searching multiple locations, including a mobile home park in the 300 block of NW 11th Street and 900 Martin Luther King Street.

Two persons of interest have been taken into custody, but PBSO has not confirmed whether they are the two shooters.

PBSO is advising people to stay off the street and lock their doors.

Captain Julie Stevens in Chopper 5 reports deputies found several casings on the ground.

K-9s are searching the area as is PBSO's Eagle helicopter.

Deputies are investigating whether a black Mercedes and a Dodge Charger was involved in the incident.

Crossroads Academy, on Southwest 12th Street, was initially placed on lockdown this morning, but that has been lifted.

This story will be updated when more information is available.
