Lake Worth organization needs donations to mail holiday packages to troops

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - The Forgotten Soldiers Outreach in Lake Worth is packing up hundreds of care packages to send to our troops overseas. People have donated cookies, books, toiletry items and other goodies; however, the organization still needs $10,000 to mail it all this weekend. If the money doesn't come in, the boxes won't make it to our servicemen and women in time for the holidays.

"There are a lot of people who are serving overseas right now who don't get packages," explained Jeanelle Knecht at the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. "Either the family can't afford to send them packages or they just don't get packages or they don't have a family to send packages."

Getting a package, even from an anonymous donor, can mean the world to a serviceman or woman, she added.

"It's a morale booster for them. It completely uplifts them that they're getting something. It's their little bit of home that somebody cares," she said. "We don't want them, especially at Christmas time, not to have boxes."

You can make a donation in person this weekend at the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. Their offices are located at 3550 23rd Avenue South, Lake Worth. You can also donate through PayPal online at www.forgottensoldiers.org.

Forgotten Soldiers Outreach is a not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible.
