WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The 8th annual Palm Beaches Marathon overtook Downtown West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Lantana Sunday.

People from all over the world came into town for the big race, but two runners stood out.

Despite windy conditions, thousands started their 26.2 mile journey just before 7 a.m.

"It felt like my muscle was ripping off my bone," Brandon Mercado said after finishing the race just after 4 hours. "But I just didn't stop."

This race is Mercado's second marathon -- but for Harry Hoffman, this was the 200th.

"It feels great to have it done," Hoffman said. "I did one last weekend in Cocoa Beach and one the weekend before over in Tampa (Bay)."

He has a tattoo to commemorate his first marathon that he ran back in 1995 at Disney.

"It's just fun," Hoffman said. "There's a bunch of nice people out there. I run with them and others I stop and help them out."

Hoffman is 71-years-old, so he has a lot of knowledge about running.

When asked if his body hurts, he said just a little, but he keeps going one foot at a time.

But if you think "Mr. 200" is something special, then you haven't met Chuck Savage yet, otherwise known as "Mr. 300".

"I'm tired," Savage said after finishing the race just after 6 hours. "I need to sit down."

That's understandable considering Savage is 73-years-old and just ran his 300th marathon. "I keep doing it because to tell you the truth I think it's because I have just never gotten over the fact I could do it," Savage said.

It's that joy he finds in marathons that keeps him going and will keep him going past 300. It's the same joy that will keep Hoffman going past 200.

"I have no idea when I'll stop," Hoffman added. "I keep running until I can't run anymore."
