Lake Worth coach faces child exploitation charges

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX)  A local high school football coach has been arrested after prosecutors say he offered to pay for sex with a child.

Todd Bush was arrested Friday at Lake Worth High School.

"I knew Coach Bush for two years. He always was a nice guy," said Wilsert Oridge, a senior basketball and football player at Lake Worth High School. "He always helped me out. If I needed lunch, he would buy me lunch."

In a criminal complaint, prosecutors say Coach Bush texted a woman who he thought was willing to prostitute her 12-year-old daughter for $120.

Turns out, the woman was an undercover sheriff's deputy.

Bush allegedly arranged for it to happen in his car behind a strip mall on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say he canceled the day before, but they still arrested him and charged him with a single count of computer pornography and child exploitation.

"Because he was like the moral support. When we got down, he always picked us up. He told us stories about how when he was in the army, that's what really inspired us," said Oridge.

Scott Smith is an assistant football coach at Palm Beach Lakes and a parent of a Forrest Hill basketball player.

He says it's more important than ever for parents to know who their kids' coaches are.

Although disappointed in the allegations surrounding Bush and coaches at the college level, he says they shouldn't be blown out of proportion.

"We've hit a string of a lot of negativity, and the good coaches, the creme will rise to the top. 99 percent of the coaches are very good," said Smith.

FOX 29 tried to contact Lake Worth's head football coach and the school district, but didn't hear back.

Bush faces five years in prison if convicted.
