Makayla Sitton's wish honored in Jupiter

JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - It was a special night for the community of Jupiter as folks gathered to get into the holiday spirit, be with family and above all, honor one little girl's dream and wish of having a Christmas pageant.

In 2010, the "Shine the Light Christmas Pageant" was held in a driveway.

This year, it's the first official pageant to honor Makayla Joy Sitton.

Makayla was killed by an uninvited guest on Thanksgiving night in 2009 when he opened fire inside the family's Jupiter home.

On Saturday night, hundreds packed into the Seabreeze Amphitheater at Carlin Park to witness the Christmas pageant inspired by Makayla.

Makayla's father and Fox 29 photographer, Jim Sitton, said he's overwhelmed by the showing of support by the community and that so many continue to care about his daughter.

"I'd rather have my daughter but we're honoring her and we're honoring our promise to her," said Sitton. "My thinking of it is, God knew she was only going to be here for six years, so he just filled her life to the hilt."

An estimated 12-to-15 hundred people attended the Christmas event.

Organizers say the pageant will be the first of many to come.
