Lynn University student's family creating orphanage in her honor

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (WFLX) - The family of a Lynn University student killed during Haiti's 2010 earthquake is honoring their daughter by building a orphanage in Haiti.

Britney Gengel died when the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince collapsed during the quake.

Gengel's father and brother are in Haiti helping build an orphanage called "Be Like Brit."

"We are going to help thousands of people," said Bernie Gengel, Britney's brother. "But at the same time I wish my sister was still alive. She was my best friend. It is hard being here, but at the same time you get some sort of peace."

It is estimated that 316,000 people died in the 7.0 magnitude quake in January 2010.
