White powder scare at state attorney's office

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - West Palm Beach Fire Rescue responded to the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office at 401 North Dixie Highway Tuesday morning after the discovery of a white powder.

A city of West Palm Beach spokesman said three people -- two women and one man -- were exposed to the powder and complained of headaches. The man was taken to the hospital first. The two women had nausea and vomiting before they left the scene.

The powder, which has not been identified, was discovered in an envelope in a mail processing center on the first floor.

Palm Beach County Emergency Management said tests on the substance have been inconclusive. It is being sent to the FBI or possibly another forensic lab for testing.

The mailroom will be sealed until it's determined what the substance is.

Part of second floor had been evacuated. It is connected by air duct to the mailroom, however employees are now being allowed back in.

At least a dozen emergency vehicles responded to the scene. One firefighter was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital after complaining of cardiac problems.
4th Street is currently shut down in front of the building.

Other streets around the State Attorney's Office appear to be open.
