NEW YORK (WFLX) - It's a first-of-its-kind lawsuit. A puppy is suing a New York City pet store.
The puppy's owner says she and her beloved dog have endured overwhelming pain and suffering. The puppy, Umkam, is a 1-year-old Brussels Griffon, an adorable little dog born with bad knees and hips. Her joints were so bad, her owner spent $2,000 on surgical repairs.
Now, an attorney is helping the two sue the pet store Umka came from, and the suit is in Umka's name. "Then, she can get pain and suffering damages which is worth a lot more than the Puppy Lemon Law which gives you the value of the dog which is $1,600," said her owner, Susan Chana Lask.
However, the pet store says they won't pay for the surgery because the store was under different ownership when she was purchased.
