Lynn University honoring students, professors killed in Haiti earthquake

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Thursday marks the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti that killed nearly 300,000 people and left more than a million homeless.

Four students and two professors from Lynn University in Boca Raton were killed in the quake.

The school will host several events remembering and honoring those six victims who lost their lives while helping others.

Two years ago, the group was on a mission trip called "Journey of Hope".

The hotel they were staying in, in Port-au-Prince, collapsed during the earthquake.

The families of those students have now started charities, foundations -- even an orphanage in Haiti -- honoring the lives of those who died.

Thursday's events include community service projects and a moment of silence at 4:53 p.m., which was the exact time of the quake.
