Cruise ship passengers sickened

PORT EVERGLADES, FL (WFLX) -- More than 200 passengers on two separate cruise ships have been stricken with a gastrointestinal illness.

Officials with Princess Cruise Lines say two of its ships, both originating in South Florida, have been struck with a norovirus that can cause vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain.

"Crown Princess" returned from its seven-day cruise on Saturday is now docked at Port Everglades. "Ruby Princess" is scheduled to dock on Sunday.

Passengers aboard the "Crown Princess" which had 150 sick passengers said the staff did all they could to keep others from getting sick.

"I think they did an exceptional job," said one passenger. "They gave us updates. The staff was cleaning and working hard to make sure everyone was okay."

Crews on both ships will be scrubbing down the ships before the next cruise leaves the dock.
