Two hospitalized after diving emergency

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Two divers are recovering in the hospital after an emergency in the water Sunday morning at the Boynton Beach Inlet.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office, a diver in his 50's suffered a heart attack and was unresponsive on the ocean floor.

A second diver rushed to the surface to get help but rose too fast and was overcome by decompression sickness. That diver was pulled to safety as another diver dove to the ocean floor to help the heart attack victim.

The heart attack victim was taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach. His condition is unknown. The second victim was placed in the hyper-baric chamber at St. Mary's Medical Center where he is expected to be okay.
