JUNO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Want to shake up your workout? Get a little more burn?

There's a new trend in the gym that is getting people fit one stroke at a time.

Rowing your boat has gone high tech, and it's catching on -- not in the water, but in John Gepp's Rowland Studio. It didn't take long for the 60 minute, one-of-a-kind class to fill up.

Those who participate in the class say its a fun, but a serious workout. "We bring the heart rate up," explained Gepp. "We bring the heart rate down. We row for power."

The class is broken up into segments that last six to seven minutes.

When you row for an hour in this class not only do you use every major muscle group in your body, it's a real calorie buster.

Twenty-three muscles are involved from beginning to end, and the average amount of calories bured is 600 per hour.

Fitness expert and wellness coach Dara Carvalho took the class, too. She said she could feel a good overall body workout.

Carvahlo also pointed out that rowing, which has little impact on the joints, adds a different option so your workouts remail varied.
