ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - The sheriff's office says crack cocaine is making a comeback evident by the recent bust in multiple alleged drug dealers.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's office is calling it "Operation Crack Down". Sheriff Ken Mascara announced Monday morning his officers have arrested 40 people allegedly involved in dealing crack cocaine. He says he's still looking for 13 more.
Of the 40 arrested, the sheriff says Roger Alcott, McKinley Parker, Reginald Grant, Mark Scott and Andraius Grant are the five most serious alleged criminals.
Investigators say toward the end of last year, undercover deputies noticed a dip in the dealing of pills but a huge rise in crack cocaine.
The sheriff's office says to combat that undercover officers bought from targeted dealers who had arrests from numerous previous drug offenses and violence crimes.
In all, investigators arrested 40 people with 106 charges in total.
The sheriff says his deputies are still looking for 13 others involved.
