Suspect in PSL shooting dead

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX)  Port St. Lucie police have confirmed that the body of a man found off of Sample Road  in Coral Springs Monday was Mikhail Sergatiouk, a suspect in a weekend murder in Port St. Lucie.

It appears he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face.

Sergatiouk was wanted for questioning in the death of Aleksandr Gorbach.

Police said Gorbach was shot at his home on the 700 block of SE Portage Avenue Saturday night while his wife and kids were present somewhere in the house.

Investigators said Gorbach was found on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

"Just shocked. It's a beautiful neighborhood, quiet. Nothing going on," said Doris Fleming, a neighbor.

What was even hard to digest for the neighborhood where Gorbach was shot, is that police said Gorbach was targeted.

"He was a very nice guy. Good neighbor. I would never think anything like this was in the opening," said Michael McDermott, a neighbor.

Investigators spent most of Sunday tracking a lead with the help of the Coral Springs Police and federal authorities.

They identified Sergatiouk as their main suspect Sunday night.

Police said after talking with Gorbach's family, they enacted a search warrant for the home of Sergatiouk and found evidence that they said linked Sergatiouk to the shooting death of Gorbach.

Investigators would not discuss how Sergatiouk and Gorbach were connected if at all.

They said when they tried to confront Sergatiouk, he fled.

The case took a new turn around  8:30 Monday morning when a body was discovered in the 7100 block of Sample Road in Coral Springs in a grassy area adjacent to a sidewalk.

Coral Springs police, Port St. Lucie police as well as the Medical Examiner's Office in Broward County worked together to identify Sergiatouk, according to a Port St. Lucie police spokesman.

Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McHugh said the body was wearing camouflage pants and a blue and gray sweatsuit jacket — as Sergatiouk was last seen wearing.

"A weapon was found near (Sergatiouk's) body consistent with the weapon used in the Port St. Lucie homicide," said McHugh about a rifle or shotgun that was beneath the body.

Police have not identified a motive. According to the Florida Department of State's Division of Corporations, Bauer Comfort USA LLC lists an Aleksandr Gorbach as its principal and managing member, with a Port St. Lucie address and mailing address of 761 SE Portage Ave., and a Mikhail Sergatiouk as a managing member at the same address.

The state website notes the company as inactive and that it was dissolved on Jan. 6, 2011.
