DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - An Atlantic High School student was reportedly abducted on her way to a Delray Beach bus stop Tuesday morning, launching a state-wide missing child alert, according to the Delray Beach Police Department.
Jade Beneby, 17, left her home around 6:30 a.m. and told her mother via text at 7:05 a.m. that she needed help, according Sgt. Nicole Guerriero.
At 7:06 a.m., Beneby texted her mother that she had been put into the trunk of a vehicle and that she did "all that she could do."
"Her mom is extremely distraught and we're just trying to figure out what happened to Jade," said Sgt. Guerriero.
Beneby, who is 5-foot 6-inches tall and weighs 105 pounds, was walking to her school bus stop at Southwest 8th Avenue and SW 1st Street when the incident reportedly happened, according to Sgt. Guerriero.
Sgt. Guerriero said the police department is asking other agencies for assistance in this investigation.
"All the investigative tools that we have are being used at this time," said Guerriero. "Everything that you can think of -- we're trying to do to locate Jade."
Beneby was last seen wearing a long sleeve white shirt, blue jeans and a pink bag.
The teen's family was at the police department Tuesday morning.
Charles Beneby, Beneby's father, described the teen as a beautiful girl that gets good grades, is a senior in high school and is turning 18 next month. He pleaded that whoever is responsible for taking his daughter return her unharmed.
"Just return her, drop her anywhere, call us, she has the number, just call the police department, call any family member," said Charles said. "It's like hell not to...know."
Charles Beneby said Jade lives with her mom 80 percent of the year, and he last saw her two weeks ago.
Investigators are searching the area where Beneby may have last been, and are talking to her friends, according to Sgt . Guerriero. There are currently no witnesses of the alleged abduction.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a missing child alert shortly before 11 a.m.
The Delray Beach Police Department is asking anyone with information to call (561) 243-7800.
