Woman drowns in Jupiter

JUPITER, FL (WFLX)  A 41-year-old woman drowned Wednesday afternoon in Jupiter, according to Don DeLucia, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

DeLucia said Shelia Scott spent about 20 minutes at the bottom of a lake before she was discovered.

Preliminary investigation revealed a neighbor located Scott in a retention pond behind the town homes.  Scott, who is confined to a wheelchair, was located unresponsive in the water and her wheelchair was found on the embankment of the pond.

"Crews worked on her all the way to Jupiter Medical Center,"  DeLucia said.

He said she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. at a community lake behind a duplex at 146 Sims Creek Lane.

FOX 29's Evan Axelbank said the lake looked more like a retention pond and was only a few feet deep.

This investigation is on-going and additional details will be released as they become available.
