WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The 17-year-old, accused of shooting two people at the South Florida Fair in late January, is being charged as an adult, according to Palm Beach County Jail records.
Tommy Poindexter was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 7:30 Wednesday night after being held in the juvenile detention center.
Poindexter is being charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and possession of a weapon.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, a fight broke out and Poindexter fired a weapon near Gate 2 on the north side of the fair's property on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Workers say families were hiding under counters and parents were holding on to their children during when the fair was put on lockdown. Most visitors were not allowed to exit the fair during so deputies could conduct a search.
Two people were injured during the shooting. One was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center and the other victim was transported to Wellington Regional Medical Center. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
