Wellington father sentenced for murder of wife, twin sons

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)  A Wellington man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he pleaded guilty to the murders of his wife and their twin sons.

Friends and relatives of the victims openly wept in court after Neal Jacobson pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree murder with a firearm after Palm Beach County Judge Stephen Rapp agreed to give him three consecutive life sentences in prison without parole.

In 2010, Jacobson was charged with the deaths of his wife, Franki, and their twin 7-year-olds sons, Eric and Joshua.

Police said he tried to commit suicide after the deaths, writing in a five-page suicide letter that his business had failed, and that he was more than two million dollars in debt.

Documents obtained by the Associated Press showed that Jacobson was afraid that he was being investigated by the FBI for mortgage fraud.

Evidence released during the course of the police investigation showed that Jacobson thought of killing his family so his wife and sons wouldn't be left destitute or taken away.

Jacobson told investigators that his wife pleaded for her life and the boys' lives before they were shot.

He said he told her "they all had to go" and intended to kill himself.

Prosecutors had sought the death penalty.
