World's best begin practice rounds at Honda Classic

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX) - The countdown to The Honda Classic has begun. Activity at PGA National has picked up and record crowds are expected by the time the clubs swing into action Thursday morning.

From the tours top players to the commitment of Tiger Woods, this year could the biggest year ever with an estimated 30 percent increase in foot traffic (spectator information).

For organizers, that means a need for a well-oiled, well-executed plan to handle the masses that will gather in the galley's for a shot at seeing the worlds best golfers.

Winds picked up at PGA National Monday morning while fans and Fins Pro Am players trickled onto the beautifully manicured champions course.

It's the beginning of the Florida swing on the PGA Tour with over a $1 million purse at stake. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Ernie Els are just a few set to tee off (complete list). Many also call Palm Beach County home.

Practice rounds began Tuesday morning with the first round starting Thursday at 7 a.m. (see pairings and tee times)

The 'Tiger Effect' has already impacted the preparation for this year's Honda Classic. Tournament directors have tweaked plans, secured more parking lots, increased bus shuttling and beefed up security substantially. "Certainly, with the increased number of people coming out to the tournament, we're seeing a lot of people who have never come here before. So we're getting a lot of question about where do we park, how do we get there." said Tournament Director Ed McEnroe.

With big crowds comes lots of parking. Valet gets you up front, but it's not open to the public. You need a special pass.

Park at PGA Boulevard and Jog to take advantage of the shuttle service. General parking is also offered at the main lot located at Dyer Park near Haverhill. The cost to park is $10 or free if you drive a Honda (additional parking information).
