Execution set for IRC serial killer

TALLAHASSEE, FL (AP)  Gov. Rick Scott is ordering the execution of a central Florida serial killer who raped and dismembered five women before murdering a teenager almost 30 years ago.

Scott signed a death warrant Tuesday for David Alan Gore. He is scheduled to be executed April 12.

In 1983, Gore picked up 17-year-old Lynn Elliott and her 14-year-old friend hitchhiking in Indian River County and took them to his house. He raped the younger girl three times, and then came for Elliott, who ran from the house. A boy saw Gore running naked after her. When Gore caught Elliott, he dragged her to a tree and shot her in the head twice.

Police found Elliott's body in Gore's trunk. He later led authorities to the remains of five victims he had dismembered.
