16 people rescued from boat that ran aground

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say strong storms forced a 30-foot boat to run aground in Naples, stranding 16 campers.

Naples Fire Chief Steve McInerny told the Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/xAVjFE ) that four families went out on the boat for a camping trip on Keewaydin Island Saturday afternoon. High winds and waves started pounding the island by Sunday, pushing the boat aground. That is when the families called for help.

None of the seven adults and nine children was injured.

Boat owner Kevin Lawhon says the storm "came through fast and caught us off-guard."

The boat remains beached on the island.
