Plane that crashed in NC registered to Florida man

FRANKLIN, N.C. (WFLX)- Authorities say a plane that crashed in western North Carolina, killing five people, was registered to a businessman in Florida.

The plane crashed Thursday afternoon as it attempted to land at Macon County Airport near Franklin. Authorities on Friday had not released the names of those killed, but the Cessna Citation jet was registered to Bogan Jakubowski of Venice, Fla., who owns a lighting company.

Airport manager Neil Hoppe says one of the two workers who witnessed the crash rushed to the scene, but the intense fire prevented any rescue.

Hoppe says the plane made a steep descent, and the pilot eventually seemed to try to land a second time. Hoppe says the right wing tip struck the ground and caused the plane to flip and burst into flames.
