Family caught in rip current off Singer Island

RIVIERA BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A total of four people were caught in a rip current off Singer Island Wednesday, according to a Riviera Beach spokeswoman.

The incident took place in the 2500 block of North Ocean Drive.

One swimmer, a teenage boy, went into the water and within minutes began screaming for help, according to the Riviera Beach fire chief.

Three other family members dashed into the water and tried to help.

Lifeguards eventually pulled the teen to safety. "It's very important to pay attention to the lifeguard flags and make sure you do swim in a guarded area. But always pay attention to the warning signs and stay away from the rip currents, choppy seas like this, lot of wind, it's very difficult," Chief Peter LeDuc, Riviera Beach Fire Rescue

All four members of the family who went into the water are expected to be OK.

There is currently a high risk of rip currents at Palm Beach County beaches.
