WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner has determined that West Palm Beach City Commissioner Bill Moss died of a heart attack.
West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio says Bill Moss may have been having "quiet" heart attacks for some time.
The information was released during a morning news conference by the city.
His funeral will take place Sunday April 1st at 10 a.m. at the Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home on Parker Avenue.
Because space will be limited the family is asking that only friends and those who knew Moss personally attend.
A public memorial will be held at the City Hall courtyard at 9 a.m. on April 3rd. Anyone wishing to pay their respects is welcome.
Mayor Muoio and the city commission will decide who will succeed Moss. According to the city charter they have 30 days to make an appointment for a one year term.
"It's clear in our charter that we have to appoint. And as much as many of us would have liked to have held an election we can't. Our charter is very clear on the situation and we have to appoint, and those are the rules we have to abide by," the mayor said.
She added that she hoped people would be interested enough to apply. "And we'll look at everybody who applies," she said.
In lieu of flowers or gifts for Bill Moss, friends have been asked to make donations to the Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary. A donation can be made online at SafeHarborRescue.com.
A memorial fund is also being set up and money collected will be used for the Animal Sanctuary.
