Vehicle smashes into Palm Coast supermarket; 8 hurt

PALM COAST, Fla. (AP) -- At least eight customers at a Florida supermarket were injured when a vehicle smashed through the store's entrance.

Flagler County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debra Johnson says 76-year-old Thelma Wagenhoffer drove her car through the entrance of the Publix in Palm Coast Saturday afternoon.

Johnson says Wagenhoffer was pulling up to a stop sign in front of the store when she apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, two pedestrians were seriously injured inside the building and another eight suffered minor injuries. A Publix spokesman earlier confirmed that at least eight customers were injured.

Troopers say Wagenhoffer was not injured. Charges are pending.

Earlier this month, five people were injured when a small plane crashed into a Publix in DeLand.
