Governor Scott undecided over Poly Tech/USF split

TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WFLX) - -

Governor Rick Scott met Thursday with State Senator JD Alexander and other supporters of splitting the Lakeland campus from the University of South Florida and creating a twelfth state university. Scott says he has yet to make up his mind, but says he is weighing both sides.

"Here's what I like. What I like about the Poly Tech is the fact that I believe that we ought to have as much focus as we can on science, technology and journey math," Scott said. "That's a real positive for me. Now we've got to make sure we can afford it, afford a twelfth university. We can't have, we can't do anything to harm one of our great universities like University of South Florida."

Scott has until Friday, April 20th to sign or veto the split. If he decides on the veto, there will be no money in the budget for the Ply Tech Lakeland Campus, which means funding will have to come out of the current USF budget.
