Attack doesn't deter athlete's dreams or proposal to fiancée

Jeff Soler after attack Jeff Soler after attack

BOCA RATON, FL (WFL) - Early last month, Jeff Soler -- a former volleyball star at Spanish River High School -- was viciously attacked while on vacation in Park City, Utah.

"My buddy got shoulder-clipped by a guy, and that guy put him up against the wall, and I stepped in to just kinda say, 'Hey, let's go. Let's get out of here. It's not worth it.' And as I turned away, the guy had sucker-punched me and got me right under my jaw, and I had stitches there. I hit the pavement. I was knocked out -- broken jaw, broken nose, and some brain damage," Soler said.

Soler and his friend, Dustin Donegan, had been at a bar just before the attack by two random assailants. "What they were actually doing was discussing exactly how he was going to propose to his fiancée the next day," said Soler's father, Ken.

Before leaving Utah, Soler got out of the hospital and did just that. He popped the question. "Will you marry me?" he asked his fiancée Rachel Leigh. "Yes!" she said.

Soler's injuries have put his pro volleyball career on hold for about a year. But, he has no doubt he'll come back better than ever.

At a match between his alma mater and Boca Raton High School, where he once coached, gave people a chance to learn about the attack and make donations to help with his medical bills.
