Fire damages condominiums in Suburban West Palm Beach

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach County Fire Rescue investigators are working to determine the cause of a house fire.

Officials suspect it may be arson as evidence points that way, but they continue to investigate.

The first call to dispatch was received just before midnight. Crews worked into the early hours of Tuesday, battling heavy smoke at a quadplex at 5352 Bosque Lane.

One of the four units in the quadplex is vacant and under foreclosure, according to a fire rescue official.  The other three units in the quadplex were occupied at the time of the fire.  The fire appears to have started in an occupied unit.

Captain Albert Barroto stood in front of the building and explained, the heavy smoke made it necessary for crews to work carefully. "They had an aggressive attack and they were able to contain the fire to the individual quadplex behind me, with no spread to any adjacent units."

There were no injuries to fire rescue workers and no injuries to residents.  In one of the units, a father and son were sleeping at the time of the blaze.  The father told fire officials that he heard what sounded like an explosion but was able to get out of the home with his son unharmed.

The family who lives in the unit with the most damage does not have insurance, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.  They are contacting the Red Cross for assistance with food, shelter and clothing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
