Lockdown lifted at PSL schools

PORT ST LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - The all clear has been given at Rivers Edge Elementary and Southern Oaks Middle School. St. Lucie County School District Director of Communications Janice Karst says transportation and dismissal at normal times.

Previously: Port St. Lucie police placed two schools under lockdown Thursday.

Police sealed off Rivers Edge Elementary and Southern Oaks Middle School. Both are on Northeast Saint James Drive.

According to St. Lucie County School Board spokeswoman Janice Karst, the schools will remain on lockdown while the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and Port St.Lucie Police search for a man armed with a gun near the campuses

The schools are on a "code red" lockdown, which means students are to remain in their classrooms with the doors locked.  "Students are safe, transportation will be delayed," said Karst.

A short time later law enforcement said there are so many officers at the school, buses will still be arriving and dismissal will be at normal time.  However, officers will be escorting kids to the buses.
