Vero minister completes 3300 mile bike ride

VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - People lined the streets of Ocean Drive to cheer on Scott Alexander Tuesday evening in Vero Beach.

The Unitarian Universalist minister completed a cross-country ride to beat hunger around the globe.

Alexander says the experience was amazing, but you can't beat raising $50,000 for hungry children. Half the money will help feed kids in Haiti. The other half stays in Indian River County and goes to Harvest Food and Outreach Center.

"The most fundamental human right is to not be hungry, and here on the Treasure Coast, a third of the children are food anxious," said Reverend Scott Alexander.

"There are a lot of families that are going to get help because of what Scott Alexander has done," added Austin Hunt.

Harvest Food and Outreach helps about 400 families a day.

Alexander ceremoniously dipped his front bicycle wheel in the ocean -- something he also did on the first day of his trek a month ago in Costa Mesa, California.

The bicycle ride stretched 3,300 and took about 100 miles of riding a day.
