From disgust to praise, Zimmerman changes view of Sanford Police

Posted:

SANFORD, FL (WFLX) - George Zimmerman, the man charged in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, had some negative things to say about Sanford police.

He gave a scathing review of the department when he spoke at a public meeting in January of last year. "I also have had the opportunity to take ride-alongs with the city of Sanford Police Department, and what I saw was disgusting. The officer showed me his favorite hiding spots for taking naps, explained to me that he doesn't carry a long gun in his vehicle, because - in his words - anything that requires a long gun requires a lot of paperwork"

Later in the year, Zimmerman's rapport with police had changed, and he actually wrote an e-mail praising the department's professionalism.

This after he became a neighborhood watch volunteer.
