Armed bank robber at large

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - Port St. Lucie police are searching for a man who held up a woman in a bank parking lot as she planned to make a deposit.

Police were called to Seacoast National Bank on US 1 shortly after 11 Monday morning. The woman, believed to be in her mid 60s, was in her minivan when a man approached her window and asked to use her phone. He then asked for help using the phone.

The man then demanded the moneybag that was visible on the passengers side seat. "She was visibly shaken up. She was in fear for her life, so she did the right thing and handed over the money," said Tom Nichols, Port St. Lucie Police Department.

"Why was she in fear for her life?" asked a reporter.

"Because a gun was placed to her head," Nichols responded.

A K-9 unit searched the apartment complex behind the bank, but, so far, the suspect has eluded police.

He is described as a black male, about 5'7, last seen wearing a white t-shirt with blue writing on it.
