FAU tuition increasing by 15 percent

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Students of Florida Atlantic University are facing a 15-percent tuition hike for the third consecutive year. The increase comes on the heels of the state cutting funds for public education.

Students on the Treasure Coast will soon have to commute to attend school. The board of trustees opted to close down the Port St. Lucie campus Tuesday.

"We're only serving 247 students, and we have to ask where our best interests lie in terms of where our best value is," stated Dennis Crudele, senior vice presdient of financing.

The cuts should save the university more than $10 million in funding, and school administrators say that is an offer they just couldn't pass up.
